Property Acquisitions represent your interest in a piece of land (or one or more Tracts) and all of the activities surrounding the acquisition of that property.
Starting a New Property Acquisition
To add a new Property Acquisition, click on the Conservation link on the main navigation bar.
From the Conservation Views window, click the Start New button.
Then, choose Property Acquisition from the list and press OK.
New Property Acquisitions are named "New Acquisition" by default. That's probably not what you want, so click the name to change it and press the check button when you are done to save your edit.
Property Acquisitions have a Status which indicates whether the property has been acquired and whether your organization is the current holder of it. Unlike most of the other fields, the options in the Status field are not customizable.
Stage is a customizable list field. Use the Stage field to as a way to query out Property Acquisitions in various stages of their acquisition process. For example, you may want to see only Property Acquisitions that are in the Inqury stage or those that are being actively negotiated. Add stages that are meaningful to your organization's work flow.
The Acquisition Method field can be used to segment your Property Acquisitions by how you obtain the interest in the property. Common examples would be Purchase, Donation, or Assignment.
Property Interest is the name your organization uses for the interest you have acquired. Common examples are Fee Simple and Conservation Easement, but anything can be a property interest including Management Agreements.
Interest Vests in Us
Sometimes you may conserve lands for another organization either on contract or just as a favor. In these cases, it is helpful to indicate whether the final property interest is going to vest in your organization. If this option is marked 'No,' when the Property Acquisition is completed (by using the Complete button) its Status will be set to Partner Holding instead of Current Holding.
Sometimes you may acquire lands that aren't meant to be held for conservation purposes. Perhaps they are lands you were bequeathed for the purpose of reselling them. In these cases, you can indicate that by choosing 'No' for this option.
Sometimes you may acquire a different interest in a property on which you already hold an interest. For example, you may end up purchasing a property after holding a conservation easement on it for some time. In this case, you can indicate that the Property Acquisition does not represent a new conservation acquisition by choosing 'No.'
Count Acquisition in Success
If for any reason you do not want this Property Acquisition to count towards your success statistics in the Conservation Dashboard, you can indicate that by choosing 'No.'
If you want to indicate where a Property Acquisition is, you need to add one or more Tracts. Tracts contain all the geographic information about a property as well as its conservation values and current interest holders.
To add a Tract click the plus button.
You can choose to add a new Tract or search for an existing Tract you may have already been using in a different activity.
Once you add the Tract it will appear in the Tract list. If it was an existing Tract with polygon data, its geography will be visible on the Property Acquisition Map.
Completing an Acquisition
When you are finished with a Property Acquisition, you can use the Complete button.
The Complete button will prompt you to enter the completion date. Then, it will do several things:
1. It sets the Status of the Property Acquisition to either 'Current Holding' or 'Partner Holding' depending on the Interest Vests in Us field.
2. It sets the Date Completed field to the date you choose
3. It creates an Interest Holder in each Tract in the Property Acquisition for Funding Sources used if the Funding Agreements indicated to do so.
